Comparing Dr. Wang Juxiang’s treatment of mammary, ovarian and cervical cancer.

By Fornia • Jan 21st, 2010 • Category: Cancer

Base Formula:

Some differences:

  1. While the liver dredging triplet -– 柴胡10,白芍10,广郁金10 – exists for breast and ovarian cancer, it does not appear in the base formula for cervical cancer.
  2. Lower jiao herbs are present in the formulas for ovarian and cervical cancer. Probably used when there is evidence of damp heat draining downward 10 is used as a base, although he takes out 知母 when the formula is too big. He says 知母 cannot be used for the long term. 15 are the lower jiao anticancer herbs; Dr. Wang does not include these herbs in the base formula for breast cancer.
  3. In breast cancer, three unique herbs appear for dispersing the masses: 橘叶6,橘核6,煅牡蛎30. One, 八月扎10 is a liver-stomach herb for regulating qi along the liver and stomach meridians.
  4. They all have kidney boosters, which may have hormone-like function, but in Chinese medicine we do not treat the herbs in this manner. For example, in breast cancer, he includes 10 to boost kidney yang (because 阴盛阳衰) as well as 山萸肉6-10 to mildly boost kidney yin; in ovarian cancer, he includes only 仙灵脾10 and 山萸肉10; for cervical cancer, he includes
  5. Okay, for breast cancer, 地榆10 is also added, likely to raise blood count. Same with 仙鹤草10. 15 is an anti-inflammatory for the middle jiao.
  6. What is interesting for ovarian cancer is the use of Spleen builders, as if to help drain damp at the same time: 淮山药10,木香6,砂仁3. 10 is used to drain damp. For drying up the damp, the cold and bitter dehydrators include. Instead of 蒲公英 (used for breast cancer), 红藤15 is used as lower jiao anti-inflammatory. 10 is included in the ovarian base formula but is NEVER used. In the same way, 春根皮10,白毛藤10 is never used, 蛇床子10 too.
  7. For cervical cancer, he uses both 红藤15 and 蒲公英15 as anti-inflammatories. To help dry up the damp, 佩兰10 and 砂仁3 are added. 白芍 is the only liver-dredging herb in the triplet (mentioned above) to appear here — I believe it is there to treat the 腹痛.

Specifically for cervical/endometrial cancer:

10 is added in two of the formulas I have for endometrial cancer. 知母 never appears in the formulas for cervical cancer.
10 appear whether or not there is excessive leucorrhea. 15 appear only once each in the two formulas I have.
10 appear to be there for transforming/draining damp.
10 appear in both. So they supplement Kidney Yin despite being on hormonal therapy.
  5. Cervical cancer: yang boosters in the spirit of wu zi yan zong wan 五子衍宗丸 (see this site for those who read mandarin) are added e.g. 覆盆子10,益智仁10, together with yin-essence boosters e.g. 生地黄10,山萸肉6,女贞子10
