Differentiating 热哮 and 寒包热哮 patterns

By mchern • Apr 7th, 2008 • Category: Cold, Flu, Perspiration, Immunity & The Exterior, Lungs

Look for exterior symptoms:

  • 寒包热哮 has - the person will feel cold on the skin. For 热哮, the person will only feel heat in lungs.
  • From this, I associate 寒包热哮 with the immune reaction that causes changes in the set point.

Look for perspiration:

  • For 热哮, the person MAY be perspiring due to heat in his system - especially if it’s the 越婢加半夏汤-pattern. I believe that he MAY NOT perspire if it were just the 定喘汤-pattern.
  • For 寒包热哮, the person will not perspire, because his immune reaction just manifests as such. His skin closes up and keeps the heat in.
  • From this, I associate 寒包热哮 with the immune reaction that causes the skin to not allow sweat out.

Look for frustration(烦躁):

  • Frustration will be present in 寒包热哮. Because the heat inside is not allowed out.

For now, I think that one difference between the two patterns is how your immune system reacts.
