Treatment for uterine fibroids
By admin • Jun 7th, 2007 • Category: Uncategorized, WomenOtherwise known as a myoma (肌瘤), fibroids may become cancerous but are for the most part benign. However, the problem is their impact on your quality of life, abdominal pain being one of the most common issues.
According to mednet, surgery is the mainstay of fibroid treatment, but is that always the case?
According to another opinion, fibroids are caused by estrogen (雌激素) dominance relative to progesterone (孕激素). In some cases, this means that not enough progesterone is available to balance out the estrogen in the body. In such a case, the treatment principle is to avoid estrogen as well as to supplement with progesterone.
Chinese medicine is also able to treat fibroids. One well known herb combination is 桂枝茯苓丸. The treatment principle is to ‘vitalize the blood and get rid of the clots.’ If you don’t take it too literally, and can think of the ‘clots’ as fiberous growth, then it will begin to make sense. An experiment done in 1986 fed a decoction of this particular combination to rabbits. 1.5 hours later, lab tests were done that saw their blood viscosity fall. More significant was a meaningful decrease in the quantity of fibrinogens (纤维蛋白原) while there was no change in the quantity of rbc, wbc or cholesterol in the blood. One interpretation of the results is: this herb combination’s ability to get rid of fibroids may be linked to its ability to inhibit fibrin production.
