Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction (lines 38 and 39)

太阳中风,脉浮紧、发热、恶寒、身疼痛、不汗出而烦躁者,大青龙汤主之… (line 38a)

Line 38a says: In a Greater Yang Wind Strike, the pulse is floating and tight, there is heat effusion and aversion to cold, the whole body is experiencing pain; there is no perspiration and hence the person experiences vexation and agitation. Treat using Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction.

若脉微弱,汗出恶风者,不可服之。服之则厥逆、筋惕肉闰,此为逆也。 (line 38b)

Line 38b says: If the pulse is faint and weak, and the person is already perspiring and is wind-averse, don’t use [Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction.] If he uses it, he will experience jueni, his muscles and tendons will be experiencing spasms, this is called ni. So the general idea that is being proposed here is that Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction is much like – and in fact much stronger than – Ephedra Decoction and cannot be used on deficient types. Likely to be an overdose on the sympathetic nervous system as i see it.

伤寒,脉浮缓,身不痛,但重,乍有轻时,无少阴证者,大青龙汤发之。 (line 39)

Line 39 says: Person experiences Cold Damage, the pulse is floating and moderate, no whole body aches, but a feeling of heaviness that occasionally feels lighter. If this person does not manifest a Lesser Yin pattern, use Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction.

There is also a line in Jin Kui Yao Lue where the decoction is used not to treat Cold Damage, but there is that heaviness in the body too. And pain too. Major Green-Blue Dragon Decoction for edema in the limbs.
