肺胀，咳而上气，烦躁而喘，脉浮者，心下有水，小青龙加石膏汤主之。 (from Jin Kui Yao Lue)

However complicated the symptoms appear, this can be interpreted as a Xiao Qing Long Decoction pattern with a Gypsum pattern. Water beneath the heart (心下有水) is clearly a Xiao Qing Long Decoction pattern, while vexation and anxiety with panting (烦躁而喘) is a Gypsum pattern. Put simply, it’s the cold rheum that characterizes Xiao Qing Long Decoction is now hot rheum.

Also note that the actual amount of Ephedra and Gypsum is not alot. 3liang of Ephedra and just 2liang of Gypsum as a freeze agent.
