Use of PC6 (Neiguan) for Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease
By Gory • Sep 22nd, 2009 • Category: Cardiovascular, Pain & AcupunctureMuch research has already been done regarding the use of Neiguan to regulate cardiovascular functioning. Evidence-based implementation would then use this point and perhaps only this point with a degree of conclusivity, that this point is clinically relevant. See the following reports if in doubt:
- Neiguan for blood pressure and heart rate
- PC6 to revert deleterious effects on vascular functioning produced by chronic cigarette smoking
- PC6 and PC5 to reduce severity of hypotension after spinal anesthesia
Clinically though, we see the use of Neiguan to increase BP in cases of hypotension, and to decrease BP in cases of hypertension. Sanli and quchi are often added. So is fengchi and fengshi to take care of the ‘wind’ as well as xingjian to ‘take down’ any rising fire. These points can be considered if the patient is suffering from hypertension; we can posit that manipulation of these points increase the stress threshold in a person.
